Strawberry Mango Smoothie
When it comes to smoothies I am definitely a huge fan! They make for quick, satisfying, and nutritious breakfasts or snack. Especially in the summer. We pretty much have smoothies every day either in the morning for breakfast or a pick-me up snack in the afternoon.
This Strawberry Mango Smoothie is so creamy and delicious. Made with sweet frozen strawberries, frozen mango chunks, creamy Greek yogurt and milk. This refreshing smoothie will have you feeling like you are on a tropical vacation. Serve it in layers for a pretty and fancy presentation!
Ingredients needed to make Strawberry Mango Smoothie:
- Frozen Strawberries and Mangoes– You want your fruit frozen for this smoothie. This is so that your smoothie can be thick and served in layers.
- Plain Greek Yogurt– Makes smoothie rich, creamy and thicker. Also adds protein.
- Chia Seeds– Adds nutrients and protein. You can omit all together if you’d like to.
- Unsweetened Almond Milk– Or any milk of choice.
- Ice– For a thicker consistency. Also makes this smoothie even more refreshing.
Equipment needed to make Strawberry Mango Smoothie:
- High Speed Blender– You want to use a blender that can blend through the frozen fruit and ice.
- Tall Glass– For serving if you want to make the fancy and aesthetically pleasing layers.
How to make Strawberry Mango Smoothie:
- Step 1– Place ingredients for strawberry smoothie (with the exception of ice) in blender. Blend for about 1 minute until creamy texture is reached. Add in a handful of ice and blend again until thick consistency is reached. Add more ice if you need to or if you’d like your smoothie even thicker.
- Step 2– Pour strawberry smoothie into a measuring cup or pitcher. Place in the freezer while you make mango smoothie.
- Step 3– Rinse blender to remove residue from the strawberry smoothie. Add in all of the ingredients for frozen mango smoothie into blender except ice. Blend again for 1-2 minutes until creamy consistency has been reached. Add in ice and blend once again until thick creamy texture is reached.
- Step 4– Take a small glass and start by filling it up about half way with strawberry smoothie. Then fill up the rest of the way with mango smoothie. Garnish with some strawberries if desired. Enjoy!
Tips and Substitutions:
- Use frozen fruits– This will make your smoothie thick so that it can be layered.
- Use ice– It makes the smoothie even thicker which helps with the layering of the smoothie as well. Ice will also make the smoothie even more refreshing.
- Layer the ingredients in the blender in the order that’s indicated in the recipe- Layering the ingredients this way makes a difference. It allows the blender to blend the frozen ingredients first then takes the rest in with the liquid being last. This makes for a creamier and richer smoothie. Believe me, it matters!
- Substitute for almond milk– You can use any milk you prefer such as oat milk, cashew milk or even dairy milk.
- Substitute for chia seeds– You can use other seeds like hemp hearts or flax meal. You can omit the seeds all together.
- Blend everything together– If you’re not looking for a pretty and fancy layered smoothie. You can save yourself a couple of steps and just blend everything together and serve as is.
How to serve Strawberry Mango Smoothie:
I like to serve this strawberry mango smoothie in layers so that it can look aesthetically pleasing. Which is why the recipe calls for the two layers to be blended separately. If you want to make your smoothie look pretty, take a tall glass. Start by pouring in your strawberry layer. Then your mango layer right over it. Because this smoothie is so thick, the layers won’t mix together.
You can even add more layers if you prefer. Just serve your strawberry layer about a third of the way. Then add a mango layer, then top with strawberry again. Get as creative as you’d like. I also like to garnish my smoothie with a strawberry.
Variations:
- Add more protein– Add about 1-2 tablespoons of protein powder or collagen peptides to each layer for some added protein.
- Make creamier– Add half of a frozen banana to each layer for a creamier texture.
- Make vegan– Use vegan yogurt for a vegan smoothie.
