Piña Colada Smoothie FAQ’s:

How do you know if a pineapple is ready to be cut?

There are a few ways you can tell if a pineapple is ready to be cut open.

  1. Color and the texture- If the pineapple is a yellowish color yet still has hints of green then it’s good to go. When it’s too green it’s not ready. Too yellow, hinting at a brownish color, means it’s starting to go bad.
  2. Smelling it- If you smell the bottom of a pineapple and it has that sweet pineapple smell then it’s a good sign it’s ready.
  3. Tugging on its leaves- If you gently tug the leaves and they easily come off then that also means the pineapple is ripe enough to be cut open.

How to cut a pineapple:

The easiest way to cut a pineapple is by using a pineapple corer. Cut the top of the pineapple off, then proceed to insert the corer inside of the pineapple. Then you just have to twist it up and the skin will be removed from the fruit. This tool will also remove the pineapple’s core. Hence it being a corer. Then Just slice your pineapple into circles and then dice.

Can you use another milk?

Yes. You can use any kind of milk you’d like. However, coconut milk gives this piña colada smoothie the classic tropical flavor of a classic piña colada.

Can I use fresh fruit for this smoothie?

You can use either fresh or frozen fruit for this smoothie. If you use fresh fruit, just add more ice.

Meal Prepping it:

This Piña Colada Smoothie is very simple to make and great to add to your weekly meal plan. You can meal prep by adding your banana and measured pineapple to freezer bags. Keep them frozen until you are ready to make your smoothie. Once you are ready to blend your smoothie, add your frozen fruit to a blender along with the rest of ingredients.

Storing Piña Colada Smoothie:

Place any leftover piña colada smoothie in a mason jar tightly sealed. Keep refrigerated for up to 1-2 days. If the smoothie starts to separate, shake or blend again until smooth texture is reached.

Can Piña Colada Smoothie be frozen?

I wouldn’t freeze the smoothie itself because this will drastically change the texture. However, you can freeze the fruit ahead of time and blend with their rest of ingredients once you are ready to make your smoothie.
