Blistered Shishito Peppers with Garlicky Sauce
These Blistered Shishito Peppers are the ultimate appetizer you will be serving all summer long. They are so easy and quick to make. These are a delicious restaurant style appetizer you can easily make at home. Whether you are hosting a dinner party, summer barbecue, or just want a snack. These are virtually perfect to serve for every occasion. Don’t skip that dipping garlicky sauce. It’s so good! Just be careful because these peppers are super addicting. You may want to double the recipe!
Ingredients needed to make Blistered Shishito Peppers with Garlicky Sauce:
- Avocado Oil– I like using avocado oil because it has a high smoking point and a pretty neutral taste.
- Shishito Peppers– This recipe calls for 6 oz but you can easily double it. You probably will want to because these are do addicting!
- Mayo– I like using an avocado oil based.
- Garlic– Grated so it can be easily combined with the rest if ingredients for the sauce.
- Lemon Juice– Adds some zest and flavor to the sauce.
- Pink Sea Salt– Elevates all the flavors.
Equipment needed to make Blistered Shishito Peppers with Garlicky Sauce:
- Cast Iron Skillet– Use a large skillet that is at least 12 inches so that you have enough room to spread shishito peppers.
- Tongs– For flipping peppers.
- Large Mixing Bowl– For tossing shishito peppers.
- Small Mixing Bowl– To mix sauce in.
- Small Whisk– For whisking sauce.
How to make Blistered Shishito Peppers with Garlicky Sauce:
- Step 1– Place a 12 inch cast iron skillet on stovetop and bring to a high-heat.
- Step 2– While skillet is heating up, place shishito peppers in a large mixing bowl and toss with avocado oil. Make sure shishito peppers are well coated with oil.
- Step 3– Once skillet has been heating for at least 2 minutes or it’s hot enough that it has started to smoke, carefully add peppers making sure they are spread out and in a single layer.
- Step 4– Sear peppers for 2 minutes or until blistered and browned. Using tongs, flip peppers and sear them for another 2 minutes.
- Step 5– Transfer blistered shishito peppers to a bowl and sprinkle with sea salt if desired.
- Step 6– In a small mixing bowl, combine mayo, grated garlic, lemon juice and pink sea salt. Give it a good whisk until it has been well combined.
- Step 7– Serve blistered shishito peppers while still warm with the garlicky sauce for dipping. Enjoy!

- If you are rinsing your shishito peppers right before searing them– Make sure to pat them dry thoroughly. Water droplets can cause splatter when they hit a hot surface.
- For a smoother garlicky sauce– Use a frothed or immersion blender to mix the sauce.
- Substitute for avocado oil– Use other high smoking point oils like coconut oil.
