Seeing pictures of beautifully displayed and brightly colored crudités platters could make you feel like it’s something complicated that you would never be able to create. However, putting together a delicious and colorful crudités platter is actually very easy to do. It’s all about having the right platter, getting your veggies and dips together, then just letting your creativity flow.
Crudités platters are perfect for gatherings, parties, holidays, and game day. They’re a crowd pleaser and there’s always something for everyone to enjoy. They make for a great appetizer and even a family movie night snack. These patters are super fresh and healthy so you can’t go wrong with these.
What kind of vegetables to use to make your crudités platter:
The kinds of veggies you can use on a crudités platter are endless. You can use any vegetables you’d like and the ones you know your family or guests would enjoy as well. I like to stick to the same variety of veggies since I know those are the ones my family and friends would like. I also try to use whatever I have in hand to save myself a trip to the grocery store. Some of my go-to crudités are:
- Sugar Snap Peas
- Cucumbers (Persian cucumbers are perfect)
- Multi-Colored Carrots
- Baby Carrots
- Cherry or Grape Tomatoes
- Multi-Colored Cauliflower
- Broccoli
- Sweet Peppers
- Easter Egg Radishes

- Multi-Colored Bell Peppers
- Cabbage
- Asparagus
- Green Beans
- Zucchini
- Summer Squash
What kind of dips to serve with your crudités platter:
When it comes to what kinds of dips to serve with your platter, you can use any creamy dips you’d like. Some of my go-to’s are:
- Hummus (Plain, Roasted Red Bell Pepper, Beet Hummus, etc.)
- Tzatziki
- Ranch Dressing
- Green Goddess Dressing
- Pesto
- Cilantro-Lime Jalapeño Ranch Dressing
- Sour Cream or Plain Greek Yogurt
- Bean Dips
- Guacamole or mashed avocado
- Onion Dip
- Artichoke Dip
- Whipped Feta Dip
Crackers/Bread and Extras:
Add some variety and extra textures to your crudités platter by adding other simple elements. Crackers and breads compliment your platter beautifully. Baguette bread, variety of crackers, and pita chips are always a great option. Even some sweet potato fries will add texture and a pop of color your crudités platter.
Other extras I like to add to my crudités platter are olives, gherkins, or red pickled onions. Not only do these add some texture to your board, they also add a variety of flavors, pop of color and some detail to your crudités platter.
Equipment needed to make this Crudités Platter:
- Large Wooden Cutting Board– This will serve as your platter to spread all your crudités on. You can also use any other platter you may have in hand.
- Small Bowls– For serving your dips and extras.
- Cutting Knives– You need a good chef’s knife to cut all your vegetables.
- Vegetable Peeler– For peeling any vegetables that need it such as carrots.
- Small Tongs and Small Spoons– To place all around your crudités platter so that your guests can serve themselves.
How to assemble your Crudités Platter:
- Step 1– To build your crudités platter the first thing you will need is a large serving plate, platter, or a large cutting board. The size of your serving surface really depends on how large of a crowd you’re hosting and how many vegetables you’re serving.
- Step 2– Once you have your platter or board ready, then it’s time to make the perfect crudités platter. Start to put together your veggies, dips and other sides. I personally like to use veggies that can be hollowed out and used as serving bowls for my dips. This gives the platter some added detail and color. Cabbage and bell peppers are my go-to’s.
- Step 3– I also use small bowls for any other dips or to serve my olives and other sides. Start spreading these around your platter first to then layer your vegetables and crackers around those. It makes it a lot easier this way and the bowls give you a great guide to spread your crudités.
- Step 4– Once your bowls are in place, place your vegetables around these. You can either color code them or just place them where you like them best. Personally, I like mixing them up and using different colors all around. I feel like this makes the platter look brighter and prettier.
- Step 5– Lastly, finish with some crackers to fill in any empty spaces. I like to use a variety of crackers on my boards. Usually about 2-3 different kinds depending on how many people I’m serving the platter for. It’s also great to have some variety and something that everyone wold like.
Tips and things to keep in mind when making a crudités platter:
- Use a wide variety of crudités and sides and have something for everyone– Try to have at least 5-6 different vegetables on your platter and at least 3 other extra sides (olives, pickles, crackers, etc).
- Make it very colorful– Use many different colors on your platter since this is what makes it pretty and eye catching. If you’re making a holiday themed or color themed platter then stick to those colors. Using different shades of those themed colors will make them stand out too and make it a pretty platter to serve.
- Have at least two different dips to serve on your crudités platter– Not everyone likes the same dip so having a couple of choices is great. Also, keep in mind people have food intolerances, allergies and preferences. Having dairy-free, gluten-free and other dietary needs friendly dips is a great idea.
- Have a lot of fun making your platter- Get creative and let your creativity flow. After all, making a crudités platter is like a work of art. It’s all about making something eye catching and beautiful to look at.

Do I need to cook the vegetables first?
You do not need to cook your vegetables first. Crudités literally means raw vegetables. However, you can slightly blanch certain vegetables to take out the fibrous nature of them. Some veggies such as broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, and snap peas may be too tough and stringy to serve completely raw. Quickly blanching them in boiling water for 1 minutes then adding to ice water will do try trick.
