When it comes to healthy snacking one of the easiest things you can go to is trail mix. This is usually a great option as they are loaded with heathy fats, carbs and protein. It also helps that many of them come with chocolate. Who doesn’t love chunks of chocolate in their trail mix?
Nuts are a huge part of a good trail mix recipe. Most of them call for nuts such as almonds and cashews. And let’s be honest, aside from the chocolate, nuts are the best part of a good trail mix. There are some occasions however where nuts just can’t make the cut.
Overall there are many people who have nut allergies these days. Many schools have opted to be nut-free to protect kids who have these allergies. This can make it very hard for some parents when it comes to packing lunches for their kids. Even if your child doesn’t have a nut allergy, they may not be able to bring anything that contains nuts to school. Including trail mix.
If you love trail mix and haven’t been able to have it or pack it for lunch, don’t worry. I have this easy, quick and delicious recipe for a nut-free trail mix. Seeds make for a great nut substitute. They are a great source of vitamins and mineral. Seeds also contain a great amount of protein and healthy fats. I promise you will not miss the nuts in this Nut-Free Trail Mix.


Ingredients needed to make Nut-Free Trail Mix:
- Seeds– Raw sunflower seeds, raw pumpkin seeds, and hemp hearts.
- Dark Chocolate Chips– You can also use chocolate chunks.
- Coconut Chips– You don’t want to skip these! They’re so good in a trail mix.
- Dried Fruit– Cranberries and cherries.
- Freeze Dried Strawberries– Gives the trail mix a nice sweetness and flavor.
Equipment needed to make Nut-Free Trail Mix:
- Large Mixing Bowl– For mixing all of the ingredients together.
- Wide Mouth Mason Jars- For storing. You can use any container that has an airtight lid.
How to make Nut-Free Trail Mix:
- Step 1– In a large mixing bowl, add all ingredients and give them a good toss making sure everything is well combined.
- Step 2– Serve and keep trail mix in a wide mason jar or airtight container for absolute freshness. Keep trail mix in a tight lid container for 2-3 weeks for best taste and freshness.
Tips and Substitutions:
- Store in an airtight container– This will keep the ingredients fresh and prevent them from going stale.
- Use what you have– Use any ingredients you already have for your trail mix. If you don’t need it to be nut-free, feel free to add nuts too.
- Use fresh ingredients if making ahead– If you want to make this trail mix and have it last a couple of weeks; Use ingredients that you have just purchased or purchased recently. This will prevent your ingredients from going stale or rancid.
- Measurements of ingredients can be adjusted– Use depending on which ones you like better. Adjust accordingly to taste or preference.
