What is chia water?

Chia water is one of the easiest ways to consume chia seeds. It’s also a great way to take in all the health benefits chia seeds have to offer. Making chia water consists of mixing chia and water. Then allowing it to sit in the fridge overnight. This causes the chia seeds to expand while they’re soaked in the water.

The seeds then form a gelatinous coating making them easy to drink. Adding juice and a sweetener like maple syrup or honey is a great way to add some flavor to chia water. Making it more enjoyable and can even make for a great snack.

What you need to make this Coconut-Mango Chia Drink:

Ingredients:

  • Mangoes
  • Coconut Water
  • Chia Seeds
  • Maple Syrup

Equipment:

  • Blender
  • Large Wide Mouth Mason Jar

How to make this Coconut-Mango Chia Drink:

  • Step 1– Combine 1 cup coconut water with chia seeds in a large wide mouth mason jar. Tightly seal jar and give it a good shake. Refrigerate overnight. 
  • Step 2– The next day, blend mangoes and puree. Remove chia seeds from fridge. 
  • Step 3– Add mango puree, rest of coconut water, and maple syrup to chia seeds. Thightly seal mason jar and give it a shake again. 
  • Step 4– Serve and enjoy!

Tips and Substitutions:

  1. Use a large wide mouth mason jar to make your chia water- You can combine all of the ingredients in this jar, it has plenty of room and the tight lid will keep your chia water fresh. If you don’t have this kind of jar, use any container that has an airtight lid.
  2. Substitute for maple syrup- You can use honey.
  3. Allow chia seeds to refrigerate in coconut water overnight- This will give the chia seeds plenty of time to expand. However, if you don’t want to wait that long, give it at least 2 hours in the fridge.
