Ingredients

For Mahi Mahi Burgers

  • 1 lb Mahi Mahi
  • 1/2 cup flax meal
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro
  • 1 tsp pink sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 3 green onions
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp coconut aminos
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For Chipotle-Avocado Spread

  • 1/3 cup mayo
  • 1 1/2 tbsp chipotle chili crushed
  • 1 avocado
  • 2-3 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro (divided)
  • 1/2 tsp pink sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Thinly slice parsley and cilantro and measure out 2 tablespoons of parsley and 3 tablespoons of cilantro. Divide 2 tablespoons of cilantro and 1 tablespoon. Thinly slice green onions and mince garlic. Place all of the ingredients in a food processor bowl; Mahi Mahi, flax meal, parsley, 2 tablespoons of cilantro, pink sea salt, black pepper, paprika, cumin, green onion, garlic, coconut aminos, and olive oil. Pulse together on high until everything gets well combined.

  2. Start scooping out Mahi Mahi mixture from food processor. You can use a spoon or ice cream scooper for this. Use hands to form patties that are about 5 inches wide.

  3. Preheat grill or griddle on medium-high heat. Drizzle a bit of oil on surface. Place patties on heated surface and grill burgers for 2-3 minutes. Flip over and continue to grill for another 2-3 minutes on opposite side. Set aside.

  4. Place all ingredients for the spread in food processor bowl (make sure bowl is cleaned up from making burger mixture); mayo, crushed chipotle chili , avocado, fresh lime juice, cilantro, pink sea salt, and black pepper. Pulse on high until well combined and creamy and smooth texture is reached.

  5. Serve Mahi Mahi Burgers while still warm in burger buns with Chipotle-Avocado Spread and any preferred burger fixins. Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

Tips and Substitutions:

  1. Chill the burgers for a while- This will help them get firm and prevent them from falling apart when grilling.
  2. Preheat grill for at least 10 minutes before grilling the burgers- This will prevent the burgers from sticking on the grill.
  3. If using a griddle- Make sure to grease it with oil and bring griddle to a heat before you add your burgers to cook.
  4. Substitute for mayo- Use pain Greek yogurt.
  5. Substitute for Flax Meal- Use blanched almond flour.
