Ingredients

For Steak:

  • 1.5 lbs NY strip steak
  • 1 tbsp coconut aminos
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp pink sea salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1 tsp dried oregano

For Sliders:

  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 tsp pink sea salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (divided)
  • 12 brioche dinner rolls
  • 12 slices provolone cheese

For Garlic-Butter

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 tsp pink sea salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven at 350℉.

  2. Pat dry streak and thinly slice into thin strips. Place in a large mixing bowl and drizzle with coconut aminos and red wine vinegar. Sprinkle with pink sea salt, black pepper, dried rosemary and dried oregano. Give steak strips a good toss making sure it's well coated with seasonings. Set aside.

  3. Thinly slice green bell pepper and onion. Place a cast iron skillet on stovetop and drizzle with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Turn heat to medium-high and bring oil to a heat. Toss in onions and green bell peppers keep sautéing until they start to soften. While veggies are sautéing sprinkle with pink sea salt and black pepper. Keep sautéing for 4-5 minutes total. Remove veggies from skillet and set aside.

  4. Don't clean skillet. Place back on stovetop and keep on medium-high heat. Drizzle with remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Bring to a heat and add in steak. Continue to stir fry until steak browns. About 7-8 minutes.

  5. Once steak has been browned, add cooked veggies back in and continue to stir fry for another 1-2 minutes. Remove skillet from heat.

  6. Lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish. Take dinner rolls and slice in half removing tops from bottoms. Place bottom half of rolls in greased baking dish. Make sure to keep all rolls close to each other that they are touching. Start layering slices of provolone cheese over dinner rolls. You want them to be overlapping each other.

  7. Next, spread steak and veggie mixture over cheese. Make sure you spread it out evenly where every roll is covered with steak and veggies. Place top half of rolls over steak and veggies.

  8. In a small mixing bowl, melt unsalted butter. Add in pink sea salt and garlic powder. Mix until well combined.

  9. Using a pastry brush, start brushing garlic butter over the tops of dinner rolls. Towards the end, pour the remaining garlic butter over rolls. Use pastry brush to make sure butter is evenly spread over all dinner rolls.

  10. Place baking dish in preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes.

  11. Remove Philly Cheesesteak Sliders from the oven. Let them sit for about 5 minutes until they can be handled. Use a spatula to serve sliders. Serve while still warm with mayo if desired. Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

Tips and Substitutions:

  1. Use other types of steak- Ribeye steak is the traditional steak to be used in a Philly Cheesesteak. Skirt and flank steak are also good options.
  2. Place steak in freezer for a few minutes- Just enough so that the steak gets firm. Do not let it freeze. This will make it easier to thinly slice it.
  3. Substitute for coconut aminos- Coconut aminos are a healthy and gluten-free way to add flavor and depth to your steak. You can also use low-sodium soy sauce if you don't need it to be gluten-free.
  4. Use any kind of dinner rolls- We are huge fans of brioche rolls. You can use any other kind of dinner rolls or gluten-free rolls if they must be gluten-free.
  5. Don't skip garlic-butter- Brushing the top of dinner rolls with garlic-butter makes the rolls so toasty and buttery adding so much flavor to the sliders.
  6. Substitute for provolone cheese- This is my favorite cheese to use in any kind of Philly Cheesesteak. You can also use mozzarella or cheddar as these cheeses are great melting cheeses too.
