Healthy version of Ghosts in the Graveyard is the best dessert to make during Halloween. Made with gluten-free and dairy-free brownies, banana chocolate chia pudding, and bananas as cute ghosts. Cute and tasty treat to make for a Halloween party or family movie night.
Ghosts in the Graveyard (Healthy Alternative)
For my featured treat for this week’s Fun Treat Fridays I wanted to feature a Halloween themed treat. I have come across many recipes for Ghosts in the Graveyard desserts. I thought it was such a cute idea and a fun way to celebrate Halloween. It can also be a very nice treat to make with the kids and have them help out. Obviously I wanted to turn it into a healthy alternative and make it a nutritional treat.
This is a much healthier option to the original versions of this dessert. I made them into individual cups so that each person can have their own individual serving. This treat is perfect for a Halloween party. Especially a kids party where there may be kids who have allergies. There’s no dairy, refined flours or sugars, and no preservatives. Uses real fruit and superfoods.
You can actually even make these for your kids as a fun Halloween breakfast, or as a cool treat to enjoy this weekend while watching some Halloween movies and decorating your pumpkins. Hope you guys have a wonderful Halloween weekend and a fun and safe trick-or-treating.
What you need to make these Ghosts in the Graveyard (Healthy Alternative):
Ingredients:
- Bananas
- Chia Seeds
- Cacao Powder
- Almond Milk
- Maple Syrup
- Almond Flour
- Vanilla Extract
- Pink Salt
- Eggs
- Coconut Oil
- Baking Powder
- Dark Mini Chocolate Chips
Equipments:
- 8 inch baking pan
- 9 oz clear cups
- Large Mixing Bowl
- Whisk
- Parchment Paper
- Large Mason Jar
How to make Ghosts in the Graveyard:
- Preheat oven at 350 degrees F.
- In a mason jar mash banana using a fork or spoon. Add the rest of ingredients for chia pudding; chia seeds, cacao powder, maple syrup, almond milk, and collagen peptides if using. Seal mason jar tightly and give it a good shake to mix all of the ingredients together. Place in fridge and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
- In the meantime, in a large mixing bowl whisk eggs with maple syrup, coconut oil, and vanilla extract. Add almond flour, cacao powder, salt, and baking powder, and continue to whisk until batter is formed. Fold in chocolate chips.
- Line an 8 inch baking pan with parchment paper. Pour batter into pan and spread evenly using a spatula. Place in preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove brownies from oven and allow them to cool-off completely. Use your hands to crumble brownies right in the pan. Set aside.
- Place a small sauce pan on stovetop and turn heat on low. Add coconut oil and heat for a few seconds until it has melted. Stir in chocolate chips combining with melted oil. Keep stirring for a couple of minutes until chocolate chips melt.
- Pour melted chocolate over crumbled brownies. Mix well so that it’s blended and a darker shade of brown. Set aside.
- Take five 9 oz clear cups and add a thin layer of crumbed brownies to the bottom of each cup (about 1/2 inch thick). Evenly divide chia pudding into each of the cups layering it on top of crumbled brownie. Top with another layer of cumbled brownie over chia pudding. Dividing the rest of crumbled brownie into each cup.
- Take bananas and cut in half (you will have 1/2 of a banana extra). Place mini chocolate chips as eyes and mouths to the top of each banana. The top that has the sharp ends. They will look like ghosts after you add the mini chocolate chips to them.
- Stick banana ghosts into each assembled cups. Serve and enjoy!
Tips and Substitutions:
- Line baking pan with parchment paper- Create a sling by cutting the sides of the parchment paper and leaving enough sticking out. This will prevent the brownie from sticking to the pan and will also make it easier to pull out brownie when done.
- Make chia pudding ahead of time if possible- Make chia pudding the night before if you can. It will make it so much easier to make everything else after. It will also give the chia pudding a chance to set more.
- Substitute for almond milk- Use oat milk or coconut milk.
- No maple syrup?- Use honey as a substitute.
- Substitute for cacao powder- You can use unsweetened cocoa powder
- Substitute for oat flour- Use blanched almond flour.
Making this dessert as a fun Halloween activity with kids:
This dessert is great to make with kids. It’s a great to get them involved in the kitchen. It can be a fun Halloween activity to do as a family. If you have toddlers have them crumble the brownies. They will love that! Have them pace the banana ghosts in the cups too. So many great options!
