Eggnog Overnight Oats
If you have been following this blog for a while, then you know how much I love overnight oats. I love to get creative with different flavors and even like to make Holiday themed oats. Like my Pumpkin Pie Overnight Oats. This time I wanted to bring something special for the Holidays.
Overnight Oats are a staple in my home and I rely on them a lot. It’s the best way I can assure I will be serving my family with a filling, energy-boosting, and tasty breakfast. Especially on days with busy mornings.
We all know how busy the Holidays can get. So having a nutrient-dense, healthy breakfast is a must. Plus, it’s fun when it has the festive element. These Eggnog Overnight Oats are perfect for this time of year. Rich, creamy, and delicious.
You can use any eggnog you’d like for this recipe. Whether you prefer store bought or homemade. However, I really like to use homemade Healthy Holiday Eggnog, or this Vegan Eggnog to keep our overnight oats vegan friendly. These oats are completely gluten-free, dairy-free, and refined-sugar free.
Ingredients needed to make Eggnog Overnight Oats:
- Rolled Oats– Or old fashioned oats. Make sure they are gluten-free if you need them to be.
- Chia Seeds– They will thicken the oats as they expand overnight in the liquid.
- Spices– Cinnamon, nutmeg and pink sea salt.
- Maple Syrup– To add some sweetness to your oats. You can use honey instead if you need a substitute.
- Raw Nuts– Walnut pieces and sliced almonds. Gives these overnight oats a good crunch and add more protein and flavor.
- Eggnog– You can use regular eggnog or vegan eggnog if you prefer. Use homemade or store bought.
- Unsweetened Almond Milk– Or any preferred milk. Coconut milk or oat milk are great in these oats too.
Equipment needed to make Eggnog Overnight Oats:
- 16 oz wide mouth mason jar with lid (or similar size)- These are perfect to fit all of the ingredients in. The tight lid also helps the oats stay fresh overnight and for a couple of days after too.
- Measuring cups– To measure oats, nuts, eggnog and milk.
- Measuring spoons– For measuring chia, spices, and maple syrup.
How to make Eggnog Overnight Oats:
- Step 1– Layer all ingredients in a mason jar; rolled oats, chia seeds, cinnamon,nutmeg, pink sea salt, maple syrup, raw walnut pieces, raw sliced almonds, then eggnog and milk.
- Step 2– Tightly seal mason jar and shake well until all ingredients are well combined.
- Step 3– Place overnight oats in the firdge overnight to set.
- Step 4– The next day, open jar and use a spoon to stir. Eat as is or top with banana slices, more nuts or any other preferred toppings.
Tips and Substitutions:
- Use any kind of eggnog– You can use use regular eggnog or vegan eggnog if you prefer. Use homemade or store bought.
- Add more toppings– Once you are ready to serve your oats add more toppings like more cinnamon, hemp hearts, banana slices, etc.
- Substitute for maple syrup- Use honey if you don’t need these to be vegan.
- Use any milk you wish- You can use any plant-based or dairy milk you desire.
- Substitute for nuts– If you can’t have nuts substitute for hemp hearts or pumpkin seeds.
- Add a splash of vanilla extra– It will add more flavor but it is completely optional.

The best part about any overnight oats recipe, is how creative you can get with the toppings. Not only do they add to the flavor and texture of the oats, but they can also add to their nutritional value. Making them that much more nutrient-dense. Don’t add toppings to overnight oats until the next morning. Extra toppings will soak into the oat mixture and can change the texture and overall taste of the oats.

Yes. Overnight oats are very healthy. They are an excellent source of protein, fiber, and other vitamins and minerals. Especially since you can mix them with so many other healthy ingredients such as fresh fruit, nut butters, nuts, veggies, etc. Overnight oats make for a nutrient-dense breakfast and a great source of energy.
What is the best liquid for overnight oats?
Milk is the best liquid for overnight oats. You can use any kind of preferred milk such as plant-based milks like nut milk, oat milk, or coconut milk. You can also use dairy milk if you prefer and are not dairy-free or vegan.
What makes overnight oats taste better?
The base ingredients of most overnight oats recipes are old fashioned oats (or rolled oats), chia seeds, and milk. To make them taste better you can add endless ingredients such as fresh or dried fruit, nut butters, Greek yogurt, nuts, protein powder or collagen, etc. You can also add natural sweeteners such as maple syrup or honey to make them sweeter.
How Long Do Overnight Oats Need to Soak?
Overnight oats need to soak for at least 2 hours but preferably overnight. This will allow for the chia seeds to expand and thicken your oats. It also allows for the ingredients for sit together for better flavor.
How to store Eggnog Overnight Oats:
The best way to store Eggnog Overnight Oats in is a mason jar. Preferably a 16 oz wide mouth mason jar with a lid. These are the perfect mason jars to make any overnight oats. As their wide mouth makes it easier to add all the ingredients in, and the inside will give them enough space to expand as they chill in the fridge overnight. Also, mason jars are airtight and will keep your overnight oats fresh. Keep overnight oats refrigerated until ready to eat.
How long do Eggnog Overnight Oats last in the fridge?
Overnight oats can last up to 3 days refrigerated after you have added the wet ingredients to them. You can keep them longer outside of the fridge by only combining the dry ingredients in a mason jar. Add milk and other wet ingredients, such as maple syrup and eggnog, the night before you are ready to eat them.
Pro tip: for these eggnog overnights oats also keep in mind how old the eggnog you’re using is. I would suggest using fresh eggnog, especially if you are using classic egg eggnog to make your oats.
How to Serve Eggnog Overnight Oats:
You can eat your eggnog overnight oats right out of the jar. You can eat your oats cold or if you prefer you can heat them up a bit in the microwave. Add more toppings to your eggnog oats for more flavor and texture. Sliced bananas, hemp hearts and more nuts are all great toppings for these oats.
Meal Prepping it:
Overnight oats are always great for meal prepping. They come together in just a few minutes. Refrigerate over night and the next morning breakfast is ready. Make these Eggnog overnight oats ahead and keep refrigerated for up to 3 days. Another easy way to meal prep these oats is by combining all dry ingredients in a mason jar. Add milk, eggnog, and maple syrup the night before you want to have them for breakfast.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- tbsp chia seeds
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- pinch pink sea salt
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- 1 tbsp raw walnut pieces
- 1 tbsp raw sliced almonds
- 1/2 cup eggnog
- 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any milk of choice)
Instructions
Layer all ingredietns in a mason jar; rolled oats, chia seeds, cinnamon, nutmeg, pink sea salt, maple syrup, raw walnut pieces, raw sliced almonds, then eggnog and milk.
Tightly seal mason jar and shake well until all ingredients are well combined.
Place overnight oats in the firdge overnight to set.
The next day, open jar and use a spoon to stir. Eat as is or top with banana slices, more nuts or any other preferred toppings.
