Easy Homemade Fruit Salad

This Easy Homemade Fruit Salad is the perfect sweet and refreshing salad to enjoy all summer long. It’s a must to make or bring to any BBQ. Fruits are in abundance during the summer time. This fruit salad is a great way to use up and indulge in all of the fruit that’s available this time of year.

The sweet and zesty Honey-Lemon dressing makes a great compliment to the sweetness of the fruit. Hemp hearts are added to this simple dressing to add some crunchiness and even protein to this delicious fruit salad.

In addition to being so refreshing and flavorful, this fruit salad is loaded with nutrients. It makes for a healthy treat to indulge in. Make it ahead and keep refrigerated until ready to be used. Make all summer long because you just won’t get enough of this delicious fruit salad!

Ingredients needed to make Easy Homemade Fruit Salad:

  • Fresh Fruit– Strawberries, mangoes, kiwis, pineapple, and blueberries.
  • For Dressing– Honey, lemon juice, pink sea salt, and hemp hearts.

Equipment needed to make Easy Homemade Fruit Salad:

  • Large Mixing Bowl– For mixing fruit salad.
  • Small Mixing Bowl– To make dressing.
  • Whisk– To whisk salad dressing.
  • Saran Wrap– For covering fruit salad as it chills.
  • Pineapple Corer– To remove the core from the pineapple.

How to make Easy Homemade Fruit Salad:

  • Step 1– Peel and dice mangoes into about 1/4 inch cubes. Peel kiwis and cut in half lengthwise. Then slice each half into thick slices. Slice strawberries into fourths and measure out 2 cups. Dice pineapple into small cubes and measure out 1 cup. 
  • Step 2– In a large mixing bowl start layering fruit; Place pineapple, strawberries, kiwi, mango, and blueberries all lined up next to each other around the bowl. Cover fruit with saran wrap and place salad in the fridge. Allow fruit salad to chill in the fridge for at least an hour before serving.
  • Step 3– While fruit salad chills, make dressing; In a small mixing bowl whisk together honey, lemon and salt. Stir in hemp hearts and combine with dressing well. Refrigerate until ready to serve. 
  • Step 4– When ready to serve, remove fruit salad from the fridge and remove saran wrap. Remove dressing from fridge and drizzle over salad. Toss salad making sure fruit is well coated with dressing. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Tips and Substitutions:

  1. Be sure to use ripe and firm fruitThis fruit will last longer in the fridge.
  2. Don’t add dressing to salad until ready to serve– As fruit sits, it releases more juice. Adding the dressing ahead will increase the juice even more. Wait until ready to serve to add dressing then.
  3. Let fruit salad sit in a salad spinner basket This will drain the extra juice and keep fruit crisp. Add juice back to salad when ready to serve.
  4. Substitute for maple syrup– You can use honey.
  5. Substitute for hemp hearts– Substitute with poppy seeds or chia seeds.

Variations:

  1. Add peaches– are a great addition to this Fruit Salad. Add as another fruit for more sweetness and flavor.
  2. Add sliced almonds– They are a great addition for more crunch.
