6 Fruits and 6 Vegetables To Introduce To Your Baby
Getting ready to introduce your baby to solid foods can be very exciting and a bit overwhelming at the same time. I was looking forward to giving my daughter solid foods for the first time and getting to see her reactions. It was also a bit overwhelming because I wasn’t sure when it was appropriate to introduce her to these foods. I also wasn’t sure what types of foods were appropriate to introduce to her. And the question I struggled with the most, how much food do I give her?
Introducing solids to baby:
My daughter’s pediatrician was very helpful when it came to solid foods. The best advice she gave us was to just feed the baby the same things we ate. She also advised me to introduce one food at a time and to feed her that same food for three consecutive days. Like this, if she had any allergic reactions we would be able to tell which food caused it.
The American Academy of Pediatrics is a great source as well. They have many articles you can read to get informed on everything you need to know bout feeding your baby. Click on the link below for more information on when and how to introduce solid foods to your baby. This link takes you directly to the American Academy of Pediatrics site.
With the information that I gathered from my daughter’s pediatrician, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and overall information and knowledge I’ve gathered from multiple books and online research, I have put together this guide for new moms out there getting ready to introduce solids to their babies. Even if you are a veteran mom you can find this guide helpful. You may not be a new mom but maybe this is your first time making homemade baby food. Things also change in the world of parenting and babies so what may have been or not been ok with your previous kids maybe be now.
Best fruits and veggies to introduced to baby for the first time:
As your baby tries most of these fruits and vegetables you can start mixing them and making new recipes for them. I loved making purees with different fruits and adding them to Emma’s baby cereal, oatmeal or yogurt for breakfast. Make sure you are tracking any allergic reaction your baby may have to any of these foods and contact your doctor immediately. Also, if your baby doesn’t show interest or doesn’t seem to like a specific fruit or vegetable, move on to a new one and try it again in a few days or weeks. I came across this with Emma with blueberries and kiwis. Now she loves both of them.
Have fun with it:
Remember to have fun with this process. It’s another milestone for your baby and enjoy every moment. Make sure to take lots of pictures and videos to keep for ever. I made a video pretty much every time I gave Emma a new food. Her reactions were priceless! I can’t wait to show them to her when she’s older.

I wish I had this resource when my son first started! It’s really helpful!
Aww thank you! You can always save it for a next one! 😉 Lol
These are great tips for new mamas! I remember doing this when my boys were little 🙂
Thank you!! I miss it so much already!
I love your chart – you made it so easy! I’m definitely pinning this for my next little one.
I’m so glad to hear it makes it easy! That was my goal! Thank you so much! 😊
I have never tried to make homemade purees for my son growing up. I think that would have been something I would have enjoyed doing, instead of buying the pre-made jars from the store. Thank you for sharing.
It was a lot of fun for me and it actually gave me some me time. I just love to cook. I feel like the option of making baby food is not given to moms as much as it should. Not many moms are aware that they can do this and how simple it is.
Great resource for when my baby will be old enough for solids! Thanks!
That’s so great to hear! How old is your baby?
My pediatrician always recommended mixing pear with oatmeal or rice cereal so that’s what I always did. It’s interesting seeing other moms take on the subject!
Yes I always purees fruit and would mix it with her oat cereal or yogurt. I used Pear a lot because it was good to help her go number two! She had constipation issues.
What a great resource! I wish I had this when my kids were still babies.
Aww thank you! I definitely feel like these days it’s a lot easier to find answers for anything that has to do with babies.
I will admit I was all over the place when giving my son solids. Even oatmeal. I couldn’t tell if he liked it at first or what I should be giving him. Now that there is more info out there , when I have a second I’ll be able to do it more easily.
I actually felt like that too at first and had so many questions. That’s why I put this together to help other moms whom may have the same questions!
This is so useful! Thank you for sharing x
Aww thank you! I’m so happy to hear that!
This is great I’m going to refer to this now and my daughters 1 !!! She’s been eating fir s long time but it’s great to check in with this type of information r 🙂
Thank you! My daughter is 19 months and I still make her purees every now and then and she eats them as a snack. It’s a great way to have a back up too for when she doesn’t want to eat her food.
We followed our pediatrician’s recommendation of starting with baby cereal and then moving onto other things. She did recommend starting allergy foods ASAP, so we mixed peanut butter in her oatmeal as the second step, then we moved on to strawberries. Both of which she loved! Our daughter has yet to refuse anything we feed her, she ate veggies with no issues despite starting with fruit!
I started with fruits and some veggies and then would mix fruit purees into her baby cereal. I think which ever way you start with first as long as they’re exposed to it from an early age they’ll love it always. Out pediatrician said that same thing about allergy foods too. So I introduced peanut butter too and egg.
