Garlic Parmesan Parsnip Fries

One of my favorite ways to make vegetables fun is by turning them into fries. It’s also a great way to give your vegetables some variety and make them more appealing for kids. I love making zucchini and sweet potato fries. There are so many more veggies you can turn into fries; avocados, eggplants, carrots and many more. The possibilities are truly endless and so tasty.

These Garlic Parmesan Parsnip Fries are a creative and delicious way to cook and enjoy parsnips. Parsnips are loaded with many health benefits and are great to keep in your veggie rotation. Turning them into fries adds flavor to them and makes them fun for kids to eat. Plus they’re also fun to dip in ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce.

Ingredients needed to make Garlic Parmesan Parsnip Fries:

  • Parsnips– Any variety will work. Can also use carrots.
  • Garlic Powder– You can use fresh garlic if you prefer and don’t mind having some chunks on your fries. Also, fresh garlic tends to overcook as they are getting baked for a while.
  • Grated Parmesan Cheese– Freshly grated parmesan cheese works Brest.
  • Dried Parsley– Add some flavor and a bit of a garnish.
  • Pink Sea Salt– To elevate taste.
  • Avocado Oil– Avocado oil has a high smoking point making it perfect to bake these parsnip fries. Refined coconut oil works too.

Equipment needed to make Garlic Parmesan Parsnip Fries:

  • Vegetable Peeler– You will need one to peel your parsnips.
  • Large Baking Sheet Pan– You want a large sheet pan to have enough space to spread your parsnip fries in and give them enough room to bake. Overcrowding your parsnip fries will prevent them from getting crispy and crunchy.
  • Parchment Paper– To line baking sheet pan preventing parsnip fries from sticking to it.

How to make Garlic Parmesan Parsnip Fries:

  • Step 1– Preheat oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a large baking sheet pan with parchment paper. Peel pasnips and slice into 2-3 inch sticks. Spread parsnip sticks evenly throughout the baking sheet pan.
  • Step 2– In a small mixing bowl, combine parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt and parsley. Whisk together until all ingredients are well combined. Drizzle avocado oil over parsnip sticks and rub it on making sure they are well coated with the oil. Sprinkle parmesan mixture over and rub throughout making sure parsnips are well coated with mixture as well. Spread any extra mixture over parsnips.
  • Step 3– Place prepped parsnip fries in the oven and bake for 22 minutes.
  • Step 4– Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve with some ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce! Enjoy!

Tips and Substitutions:

  1. Make sure to peel parsnips first- You want to get rid of the skin first before turning them into fries.
  2. Slice parsnips into 2-3 inch sticks- This makes for the perfect size and allows for the parsnips to bake evenly.
  3. It’s ok for fries to get clumped up together in the oven- As parsnip fries bake in the oven and cheese begins to melt, it will cause for some if the fries to clump up. I personally like this, but if you don’t, simply spread them out more before sprinkling with parmesan mixture. Or just break them apart as you serve them.
  4. No avocado oil?- You can use any other oil like coconut or olive oil.
  5. Substitute for Parsnips- Try this recipe with carrots! So good!
