Introducing my daughter to solid foods was one of the most exciting parts about motherhood for me. I had looked forward to experiencing her reactions to new flavors and textures. Watching her mind work processing the new taste and automatically knowing to swallow was both entertaining and amazing to me. I started by making her single ingredient purees so that I could see her reaction to that specific food and also to make sure she didn’t develop any allergies. Luckily the allergies never happened but she did have her favorites and her not so favorites from the beginning.
Apples were one of the first foods I had her try and it was a success. She did great with beets too. Now kiwis weren’t such a hit with miss Emma. I think this was partially my fault because the first time I gave her kiwi it wasn’t too sweet. In fact it was pretty sour and she didn’t like it at all. These are the trial and errors we go through as parents and the important thing is to learn from them as we go along.
Kiwis are one of my favorite fruits and they have so many health benefits. I really wanted Emma to have some and not miss out on all the vitamins and minerals in them. I started trying out some blends with kiwi in them so that she couldn’t tell there was some in them. This combination of Beet, Apple and Kiwi was a hit because the beet pretty much overpowers everything else. The apple gives it a sweet kick and I made sure the kiwi was ripe and sweet too.
This puree is packed with vitamin c, potassium antioxidants and fiber. It’s great to strengthen your baby’s immune system and facilitates digestion. Overall it has a pretty sweet flavor and a very soft texture. It’s great for babies who are new to solid foods. It quickly became one of Emma’s favorites and eventually she came around to liking kiwis. They’re actually one of her favorite fruits now. When ever I give her a kiwi with her meals she ends up having two. That’s one of he great things about the journey of feeding a baby. They may not like something the first time they try it but they eventually grow to liking it later on
